Deeply committed to collaboration, our design process begins with a meeting with each of the artisan leaders in our network to learn what materials and techniques could be applied to a specific design inspiration.
These products are then adapted based on the creative and technical input of the artisans.
From swatch development, to sample making and finally production – we work side-by-side with the artisans as the products come to life.
During production Emilime can work with up to 300 artisans across Peru. Our design team creates all the corresponding technical specs for the artisan leaders and assigns specific styles depending on the leaders’ capacity and specialty. Using this information, the leaders begin to train their groups of knitters to prepare for the production and large quantities of each style.
As stores make their seasonal selections from our samples, we place our yarn order with the small-scale providers in the highlands of Arequipa and Puno. The yarn is sorted, cleaned, and shipped to Lima, where we calculate and distribute the yarn appropriately to our network.
With their leaders guiding them and inspecting their process, the knitters turn in pieces depending on the amount of work they choose to take on. Each knitter has a different style and way of holding the needles, which causes small differences that may need to be corrected when going through the quality control process.
Once the styles have passed the first step of quality control and have their tags sewn on, the pieces come to our headquarters in Lima where we clean, package and separate all items for shipment.
